 About Us

Rambling Heart are the UK's folk theatre company. We specialise in combining traditional folk storytelling with theatre to create uniquely intimate, direct and connected performances for regional audiences.

You can read more about what we mean by 'traditional storytelling', and why we value it, here.

We began experimenting with the combination of folk storytelling approaches and theatre in 2011 and, since then, our exploration has taken us from Shakespeare to giant puppets to Greek tragedy.

At the heart of all of our work is a wish to better connect people with each other, with their communities and with communities unlike their own.

Folk is about listening to local voices. It's about celebrating heritage and home and history. It's about people singing together at the top of their lungs, even if they don't know all the words. It's about recognising and respecting the lore of those 'other folk', who are not 'us folk'. It's about sharing something that we all own.

Rambling Heart are traditional storyteller and theatre director, Polly Tisdall and producer, Hannah Groombridge. We work regularly with Associate Artist, Tamar Williams and with a range of other folk and theatre artists on a project-by-project basis. You can read more about our team here.
